Sufmi Dasco Ahmad (born 7 October 1967) is an Indonesian politician and businessman from the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra). He currently serves as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR-RI).
Early Life and Education
sufmi dasco Ahmad was born on 7 October 1967 in Bandung, West Java, to Ahmad Dakyan Suud (who passed away in 2024). He has siblings: a brother, Eko Harsa Prihatin Suud, and Irwan Suwandi, and a sister, Syuastri Reda. He completed his elementary education in Palembang, middle school in Jakarta, and high school in Manado. After high school, he pursued electrical engineering at Pancasila University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1993. Later, he pursued law studies at Jakarta University, Jakarta Islamic University, and Bandung Islamic University.

Ahmad is married to Raden Euis Handayani, and the couple has a daughter, born in 2009.
Career
In Gerindra
Sufmi Dasco Ahmad’s political journey began after he engaged in business with Fadli Zon, which led to his entry into politics. He became a founding member of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) and was appointed as the chairman of its central committee in 2008. Following the 2014 elections, he was elected to the People’s Representative Council (DPR), representing the Banten III electoral district with 56,323 votes. In his first term, he served on the third commission, which focuses on law, human rights, and security, and chaired the council’s ethics body.
In October 2017, Ahmad accused the Indonesian Police of bias against Gerindra and raised concerns about the potential for communism to “revive and spread overseas.”
He was re-elected to the council in the 2019 elections with 99,002 votes and appointed as one of the deputy speakers of the DPR. In 2024, he was again re-elected with 119,692 votes, continuing his role as deputy speaker.
Academics
Apart from his political career, Ahmad is also a professor at Pakuan University. However, in 2024, Tempo magazine reported that his appointment as a professor was controversial, as he allegedly did not meet the required 10-year teaching experience and had published papers in journals that were either discontinued or not indexed by Scopus.
